Introduction: Some 10 species of epiphytic orchids known from the Malay Peninsula to New Guinea. The genus is related to Luisia Gaud.
Derivation of genus name: Taken from the Greek aden (gland)
Type species: Adenoncos virens Bl.
Characteristics of genus: Tiny, inconspicuoous, monopodial epiphytic herbs with a growth habit similar to those of the genus Luisia. They have thick, nearly terete leaves in two rows.The primarily yellow to green, not widely opening, flowers are of unusual structure, most prominent is their broad concave lip. Leaves thick, sometimes terete, in two rows. Inflorescence one to few flowered. Flowers small, primarily yellow to green, not widely opening; Tepals free; labellum broad and concave. Pollinia four, in two pairs more or less equal in size.

Habitat: Adenocos papuana is an inhabitant of rainforest at 700 to 1000 m altitude and extends into the lower regions of the upper montane forests at about 1, 900 m altitude. It is found on a range of host trees such as Araucaria cunninghamii, Castanopsis acuminatissimum and Toona sureni.
