Chitonanthera Schlechter

Introduction: The genus was created by Schlechter for initially only three species. Now some seven species are recognized.
Derivation of genus name: In 1905 this genus was established by Rudolf Schlechter from the Greek chiton (tunic) and anthera (anther).
Type species: Chitonanthera angustifolia Schltr.
Characteristics of genus: The flowers are tiny and dull coloured.
Number of sections and/or subsections in genus: Two sections for the genus were created by Schlechter separating those with jointed leaves from those species with un-jointed leaves.
Number of species in New Guinea: perhaps seven
Habitat: They are dwarf epiphytes of the upper mist forests.
Conservation status: not known
