Introduction: There is only one species described in this genus, C. papuanum Schltr. The genus is closely related to Agrostophyllum Bl. but differs in the concave labellum and the footless, slender column.

Derivation of genus name: Greek chiton (tunic), cheilos (lip)

Type species: Chitonochilus papuanum Schltr.

Habitat: An epiphytic species found in the mist forests of the Torricelli Range, Papua New Guinea.

Conservation status: not known
