ORCHID GENUS DESCRIPTION
Chrysoglossum Blume

Introduction: About ten often rather handsome terrestrial species are known in this genus. The genus is distributed from Ceylon to Fiji.
Derivation of genus name: Greek chrysos (golden), glossa (tongue)
Type species: C. ornatum Blume
Number of species in New Guinea: Two species C. cyrtopetalum and C. villosum are known from New Guinea.
Habitat: Plants are found in shady places, growing in rich humus soil in mountain forests. Plants may reach 65 cm in height with an multi-flowered inflorescence of some 25 cm in length.
