ORCHID GENUS DESCRIPTION
Cyphochilus Schlechter

Introduction: Only seven species are known in this very rare and little-known genus of epiphytic plants. All of them are endemic to New Guinea.
Derivation of genus name: Greek kyphos (bent), cheilos (lip) referring to the genuflexed-correct position of the lip
Type species: Cyphochilus parvifolius Schltr.
or C. bilobus (J.J. Smith) Schltr.
Basionym: Appendicula biloba J.J. Smith
Characteristics of the genus: Vegetatively the plants resemble the genus Appendicula Bl.
Conservation status: not known
