ORCHID GENUS DESCRIPTION
Didymoplexis Griffith
Calcutta Journal of Natural History and Miscellany of the Arts and Sciences in India 4: 383. 1843.
Introduction: A genus of about ten species, all of which are saprophytic and therefore impossible to keep in cultivation.
Derivation of genus name: Greek didymos (twin), plexis (plaiting). Refers either to the two column wings or the lateral (dorsal ?) sepals and petals which are joined in the basal half.
Type species: Didymoplexis palens Griffith
Characteristics of the genus: Leafless, small saprophytes. Flowers are about 10 mm long and mostly white with a tinge of rose or yellow.

Number of species in New Guinea: 2 - Schlechter described D. papuana and D. torricellensis
