ORCHID GENUS DESCRIPTION
Flickingeria A.D. Hawkes

Introduction: The genus is comprised of some sixty five species. These epiphytic plants are widely distributed from India, China through to New Guinea, Australia and the Pacific islands. The genus was previously known as Desmotrichum Blume and two wide-spread species now included in the genus Flickingeria were before included in the genus Ephemerantha.
Derivation of genus name: The name was established for this genus in 1961 by Alex D. Hawkes after Edward A. Flickinger.
Type species: Desmotrichum angulatum Blume. Designated by Clements, in Australian Orchid Research vol1 (1989)
Characteristics of the genus: The pseudobulbs of the species in the genus branch freely. The intricate flowers last only one day. They are creamy white-yellowish with a 'bearded' lip. Plants can flower profusely and several times a year.

Habitat: Quite common in New Guinea is Flickingeria comata, found in the tropical lowlands.
