ORCHID GENUS DESCRIPTION

Mischobulbum Schlechter
in Fedde, Repert. Beih. 1 (1914), p. 98.

Introduction: About seven species are known in this genus occurring from China and India, through Malaya to New Guinea and the Solomons. Closely related to Tainia Blume but differing in the leaves which are stemless and directly attached to the pseudobulbs.

Derivation of genus name: Greek mischos (stalk) and bolbos (bulb). Descriptive of the pseudobulbs which are stipitate.

Type species: first named species: Mischobulbum grandilflorum (J.D. Hooker) Schltr.; first spec. nov. Mischobulbum lancilabium Schltr.; Basionym: Nephelaphyllum grandiflorum J.D. Hooker

Characteristics of genus: Terrestrial herbs

Conservation status: not known
