Saccolabiopsis J.J. Smith

INTRODUCTION: A genus of about 12 species found in Malaysia, indonesia, New Guinea and Australia.
DERIVATION OF GENUS NAME: This genus was established by J.J. Smith in 1918, noting its close resemblance (Greek opsis = like, resemblance) to the genus Saccolabium Bl. A single species, S. bakhuizenii J.J. Sm. is known in this genus to occur in Papua New Guinea.
TYPE SPECIES: Saccolabiopsis bakhuizenii J.J.Sm.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GENUS: A small, monopodial epiphytic herb with short stems and flat leaves from the mountain forests of West Java where it can be found occasionally at an altitude of around 800 m. The inflorescence carries many tiny flowers, which are thin textured, pale green when opening and later turning yellow with a red tinge.
