olaf, I just recall seeing one species that might be worth checking- B. thrixspermoides. I will check my illustrations as I may have it there. Nev. |

You have a Bulbophyllum in sect. Intervallatae Sadly your picture is a tad too small for my eyesight. And the orientation of the flower seems to be weird. Could it be possible you re-post a larger and better oriented picture? Nevertheless, I happen to know that Vermeulen and O'Byrne recently described a new Bulbophyllum species from Sulawesi in the Special 75th Anniversary Issue of Malayan Orchid Review ( Vol 37/2003 pages 80-81). As I am witting this I am comparing your photo with the photos they included and the line drawing and it really seems close if not similar ( only difference seems to be in the color of the lip as yours is darker) The name of the new species is Bulbophyllum novaciae Hope I was able to help. (Message edited by tio_super on November 25, 2003) Latter Edit : I copied your picture to my computer and rotated it and it is really very close to the new species described in the MOR. So, let me copy verbatim the description and notes so you can compare your lower with the type specimen. "Note: Uniquely caracterised among Bulbophyllum sect. Intervallatae by the upward-curved, hook-shaped stelidia as well as the almost filament-shaped auricles near the base of the lip." I will try to scan the article for you ( I will be needing your email) The line drawing (as it shows in very fine detail the two features used in the diagnostic) is of more useful than the pictures . Hi Olaf, perhaps Peter O'Byrne or Jaap Vermeulen can help you with this one. They are working on the flora of Sulawesi and may have come across this one in their travels. Good luck! |

Dear Wolfgang, I get an incorrect information. The Bulbophyllum cam from Sulawesi and shall be undescribed. But perhaps anybody has an idea which section and perhaps which related species it has. Best greetings from Bavaria olaf Gruss |

It sure is a weird one! Can you determine to what section in Bulbophyllum this belongs? And can you ask the nursery in Germany as to WHERE in New Guinea (Papua New Guinea or West Papua) this plant is supposed to have come from? |

In a nurserx in Germany I have a very interesting Bulbophyylum. The plant shall com from Newguinee, but I have no idea which species it could be. I hope that I will get tomorrow more pictures of. Perhaps som of the Bulbophyllum-friends have an idea Best greetings Olaf
