I have started a new thread for easier navigation.

Where this species is found in PNG the weather is something like this:

Bright warm mornings to 25 degrees Celsius around noon, in the early afternoons rain clouds form and it may or may not rain, a drizzle type rain (like in some parts of Europe!) that over period thoroughly soaks all vegetation.

By the time the sun has gone down at 6.00 pm it can get pretty 'nippy', uncomfortably cold, in the low 10 degrees Celsius range. Temperature difference day/night average 15 degrees Celsius and more.

To give you an idea what this kind of weather does to the vegetation I attach an image of a moss and fern covered tree at the Tari Gap, Southern Highlands Province, PNG, where Den. subclausum can be found.

Seeing that you are doing very well with Dendrobium cuthbertsonii which, in the wild, lives in exactly the same conditions. Why don't you try and give your Den. subclausum the same regimen.

Dendrobium subclausum that will not flower.
I have had it for about 6 years. Bought it from Dick Warren as a small established seedling. About 5 small 'canelets'!!
Now grows close to roof glass. Has continual air movement. Min. temp. 12C. Max. temp. mid. 30'sC. Producing off-shoots on some canes. Like kei-keis but no roots. I feed rarely, as I do most of my plants.
I use a Victorian method of having Ammonium carbonate in some small containers around the greenhouse, where they cannot get wet. Only small amounts, so you cannot even smell the ammonia that is given off. I think technically it is a mixture of carbonate and carbamate.
Maybe it needs a really cold spell, for a few nights?

ps I love this new site, because I love PNG species, especially Dendrobiums. I have quite a collection now, although most are still small plants, as I grew them from flask ex. Equatorial Plants. We are lucky here in the UK to have such a source of PNG orchids.
Just bought a white Dendrobium cuthbertsonii. Has a couple of years to go before flowering size.
I've got yellow, red, pink, orange and purple/white bicolour}} cuthbertsonii's. Lessons I've learnt :- They hate being repotted. They dont like chemicals, especially insecticides eg. Malathion. (Which you cannot use now in the UK, by law).

>Dendrobium subclausum var. subclausum. It has about 40-50 canes, most of which are in leaf. I know it only flowers on leafless canes, but how do I make the old canes drop their leaves, so it can flower?<

How long have you had this plant? The plant will shed leaves on mature pseudobulbs within a year or even earlier, then you will get flowers if all other conditions are right.
