Dendrobium fulgidum Schltr. is the only #Pedilonum with orange to red flowers and a simple, flat, narrow lip. The photos you've provided are a pretty good match for both Schlechter & Smith's illustrations. There are two subspecies: D. fulgidum ssp fulgidum is a mountain plant. D. fulgidum ssp maritinum (syn. D. maritinum JJ.Smith) which comes from the lowlands. The main morphological difference is that D. fulgidum ssp. maritinum has a transverse callus about 4 mm from the base of the lip. D. fulgidum ssp fulgidum also has a transverse callus, but it is right at the base of the lip (ie, located on the claw)so when the lip is removed the callus appears as a thickening at the lip base ... this is visible in your photo in exactly the right place, so you've got ssp. fulgidum. Cheers, Peter |

Hello Peter, I have uploaded a few more images of the Indonesian dendrobium in addition to the ones I sent you earlier. I have seen a couple of images of Dendrobium roseipes in the net and they are pinkish or reddish in colour. Could mine just be a colour variant? Others who have seen this dendrobium before, I would appreciate very much if you could help. Thanks in advance. Seck
