This first CD-ROM contains descriptions of all 133 New Guinea orchid genera, an orchid glossary with over 500 entries, an illustrated dichotomous key and an interactive multimedia key to the genera, and the bulk is a check list of all c. 3000 orchid taxa occurring in New Guinea, complete with the synonymy as now understood, indicating the types and where they are located, distribution, concise cultivation notes, illustrated by c. 1000 colour photographs (CLICK HERE for sample images) of the highest quality and over 1000 digitized flower analyses in pencil from the archives of J.J. In book form it would cover more than 800 pages text and (with 4 illustrations per page) 500 pages illustrations.

The next CD-ROM planned will cover all New Guinean Dendrobium. The Dendrobiinae CD-ROM will contain about 450 taxa. It is planned to have the CD-ROM available in late 2001.

André Schuiteman who is doing most of the CD-ROM work, is appointed on a project basis. Funding for his work is only available until July 2001 and additional funding is urgently sought to enable André Schuiteman to continue his employment.

This project is one of the most significant and complete publications ever undertaken for the orchids of New Guinea.

The CD-ROM’s can be purchased from Publications Department of the National Herbarium of the Netherlands. They will be available end February 2001.

The price is fixed in EURO’s: € 59,- plus mailing costs.
